Today was a momentous day! I cleaned out all of my piping for the very first time today, and my system is glorious and clean. Additionally, I made some modifications to the (previously) leaking right pump tubing, which now is working fine. I also changed out my 2-hose pump, to a 4 hose pump, the other two hoses attached to some air stones I had but didn't know how to use! I decided to figure out how they worked after retiring the filter I had been using as an aerator. These are much…

I just bought this flower today! I forget what kind it is, but I saw it at Imwalle Gardens today, and it told me it needed to live in Tower #3. When I went to transplant it, I learned a valuable lesson: don't rinse off dirt in the sink: the garbage disposal will (probably) eat the dirt just fine, but those white pebbles the proverbial 'they' put in with it will fuck that shit up! I don't think it broke mine though...after awhile the noise of pebble grinding on blade turned to like a…

Hello to all my AP friends,

I just wanted to stop by and update anyone who might be interested, in what I have been doing. The following is a brief of what we did this year. *Pictures will follow later. Please look for them in Album named "TongZhao 2013".
As some of you may know, I am a self-proclaimed…

California looks to cloud seeding to bolster snow pack
SACRAMENTO (AP) With California experiencing a second straight dry year, water agencies are turning to cloud seeding to help pad the states snow pack.
The practice has been around for decades, but cloud seeding has gone mainstream as a result of new technology and research showing its reliable, the Sacramento Bee reported Monday.
In a report this year, the California Department of Water Resources…

I spent four years as a vegan. I'm seriously thinking about returning to that for both my health and for moral reasons.
This video is difficult to watch, I could not watch the entire video.
The section on food starts at about 17:45.
Anyone who eats meat should be required to watch this video

If you are like me you only eat a small portion of what you grow. Sometimes we get overburdened with too many tomatoes, squash or zucchini at the peak of the season. But a solution has been created!
The problem with most food collections is they can't collect fresh food. Their donations are sent to a large warehouse and distributed weeks…

After months of Web research, I have a collection of carefully selected references that could help anyone save lots of time and money. Also, this includes a 10 MB PowerPoint presentation, all free of charge. If enough people have aquaponics, there is a possibility of eliminating or greatly reducing mosquitoes in residential areas by the end of the century as one aquponics commercial grower did on seven acres in Hawaii. Reply with an email adress: …

Hello fellow community aquaponic folk! I am new to the community, and this is my first ever blog!
I live in Los Angeles CA, on the outskirts of town by Sylmar. Now, this is a pretty wonderful place to have an aquaponics farm set up because it has fairly good weather year round. However, around this time last year, when my industrial sized aquaponic system was about to go into its first winter, the temperature suddenly dropped below 65 degrees at night and the water dropped with it. In…

Bell Siphon – Stand pipe top needs to be level. A ton of water and media can distort wooden, metal, and plastic grow beds with Bell Siphon looking like the Tower of Pizza. Ooops. Put proper support under grpw bed and support with auto jack for fine tuning.
Murray Hallam is ripping out his large commercial PVC tube system in Australia due to temperature problems with water overheating in pipes. He is converting several large greehouses to grow beds, an expensive change. Congratulation…
