Building contractor. I love science, and solving problems with design and technology.

I've kept Koi Ponds since the early 1980's. Those are basically ornamental AP systems, but I built my first vegetable system in February of 2012.

Njǫrd, Old Norse Njǫror, in Norse mythology, the god of the wind and of the sea and its riches. His aid was invoked in seafaring and in hunting, and he was considered the god of “wealth-bestowal,” or prosperity. He was the father of Freyr and Freyja by his own sister. Traditionally, Njǫrd’s native tribe, the Vanir, gave him as a hostage to the rival tribe of Aesir, the giantess Skadi choosing him to be her husband. The marriage failed because Njǫrd preferred to live in Nóatún, his home by the sea, while Skadi was happier in her father’s mountain dwelling ..

The PDF plans for the vertical tower and upside down tomato planters is just a few weeks out there. I'm waiting on plant growth right now so I can include pictures of the things actually proving that they work. I will say that the new design using the green Matala filter media is a lot easier to work with.

the wetter part of Chico is why your stream looked so lush, then?!  Would you recommend having a stream in Phoenix?  I heard how much water evaporates from someone with a pond out here and I'm trying to decide if the water evaporation is worth it.  Also, will the fish cook in a small stream...

Bob, i'm looking through the old posts and u posted a pic of a stream, I think in your backyard. Is Chico pretty lush like other parts of CA or is it more desert like Phoenix? Very nice looking stream!

Thanks for the warm welcome Bob. I am just getting started learning about aquaponics, so I’m very excited to be the 10,000th member and thus get a chance to take the class. I would also very much like to take you up on your tour offer, when would be a good time to either call or swing by?

Hi Bob, the tank above the beds is actually an auto siphon header tank the takes about 5 minutes to fill with a 75 watt pump before flushing out in about 10 seconds to the grow beds. The lettuce is bib lettuce of some kind  not sure exactly. The system is not running now as I didn't want to heat (or light) through winter and although the system worked well with seemingly great plant growth and healthy Koi, I don't think I will re-activate this system. The grow bed drains would clog quickly with roots and I found transplanting into gravel to be quite tedious. I will do DWC next.

California looks to cloud seeding to bolster snow pack

SACRAMENTO (AP) With California experiencing a second straight dry year, water agencies are turning to cloud seeding to help pad the states snow pack.

The practice has been around for decades, but cloud seeding has gone mainstream as a result of new technology and research showing its reliable, the Sacramento Bee reported Monday.

I spent four years as a vegan.  I'm seriously thinking about returning to that for both my health and for moral reasons.

This video is difficult to watch, I could not watch the entire video.

The section on food starts at about 17:45.

Anyone who eats meat should be required to watch this video
