Hi guys,
I know its a lot to ask but not being back to the States for seven years has depleted all my original resources. I really hate to sound like a beggar but...the reason I haven't been back is because I can't afford to.
Do you have any books, magazines or DVDs that you have finished with or just laying around?
Subjects I'm interested in are: Sustainability of any sort, popular mechanics/ science, ecology of any sort, any must read books, philosophy...anything meaningful to you, I'm sure I'd be interested too.
Are there any tools; hole saws, screwdriver bits you name it, (esp metric) that you don't use or have spares? I'd gladly take anything usable. Anything decent that is made in this country goes to export. Local tools are accidents waiting to happen.
I thank you my friends for reading this and hope you can help.
Cheers
Hi guys, I'll be in Seattle next week (Oct 10 -20th) so anyone with books etc can send them to my friends house so I can carry them back to China instead of sending them here.
Please send to: Rand Will, Care of Carey Ma:12819 SE38th #401,Bellevue, WA98006
Thanks & Cheers.

Hello to all my AP friends,
I sure have missed y’all! This has been an interesting and exciting year for me. Unfortunately we haven't been able to do any Aquaponics other than stock our new ponds. I just wanted to stop by and update anyone who might be interested, in what I have been doing. The following is a brief of what we did this year. *Pictures will follow later. Please look for them in Album named "TongZhao 2013".
As some of you may know, I am a self-proclaimed…

Good news! Merry X-mass all! On Christmas Eve, I received a call that lasted about four hours and in conclusion I got a wonderful X-Mass present in the form of a committed Angel Investor. Phase one will begin as soon as I finish negotiating and sign an agreement with the landlord, (hopefully within the next month).
Phase One will be concentrating on the forest pasture to increase my egg and chicken production from my current two hundred hens to a possible five…

Maybe dreams really do come true. I’m only in initial negotiations at this time (as of yesterday), and there will be a thousand and one hurdles to jump before I can actually claim the existence of my concept institute, “Ma’s Greensmart Institute”, but it finally has a glimmer of hope.
It seems that both ladies, Fate and Destiny have kissed my cheeks. My new farm will be located in the same village, no more than a quarter mile from my experimental garden. It is a fifty-acre…

Hi Carey. Are you still doing aquaponics in Beijing? I have a couple of friends who are interested in investing aquaponics project in China. I will go to China for a business trip this summer and would like to visit your farm if possible. I look forward to hearing from you. Thanks!
Carey, I am a master's student in Global Sustainability at USF Tampa. I am trying to implement closed-loop aquaponic systems in schools as a way to teach kids how to build the systems and plant, harvest, and troubleshoot them. As part of the grants that my team is looking at we must be able to quantify the amount of food produced in pounds and the amount of people that can be fed per square foot of space used for growing. I am coming to Shanghai and Beijing this summer 5/10-6/21/13. We are studying Chinese architecture and I am trying to develop an aquaponic greenhouse that harvest its own water. I finish my degree after the Fall semester 2013 and I am hoping to develop these systems through our grant team and make my career in aquaponics. I do not have a system myself but I grow at my apartment in pots. I do work on a system with my team at one of our team member's backyard and I am helping a local farmer in New Port Richey area to change from organic soil growing to aquaponics systems. Ok well I think thats enough for now but feel free to ask me any questions that you have. Thanks again for all your help!
hi carey! good to know some people doing aquaponics in China. Would like to learn more on a DIY basis. interested to know how you got started in China. WHere do you find materials? (there isn't much Home Depot or similar in SHanghai)
Hi Carey. Yeah, I can relate to that. Most of the busy-ness here amounts to me robbing Petar, to pay Paul, but I can think of worse things to be doing with my time. (Sorry this reply is about a month late, I don't much check my page). Hope all is well. Cheers.
Thanks, your pioneering efforts in China are an inspiration
Would be great to exchange information and experience while I develop a multi-story AP complex here in Boston.
Hey Carey,
Thanks for checking up on me. I miss you guys and the site very much. I glance through every once in a while. See you are staying active, I'm happy for that. Very busy here and don't get the time really. Still trying to get some land to practice/teach AP. Im making some progress and could be sooner than later. Hope youre doing well with the AP over there. Bye for now.
Thanks for asking. Hope all is well with you.
Peace.
ola Carey Ma..posted a couple of drawings of our project on my wall since you were unable to open the blog.. Thanks for the 'feed' thread- you answered several questions I had re tilapia eating greens..etc. Our ponds are growing lots of green stuff these days..Wondering how much of it the fish eat..Seems to mostly grow in the shallows- maybe warmer water? Tested with PH strips the other day-about 6.5-if the ponds have heavy ammonia would they test out at 6.5?
Question ? Between the work you do on your farm(s) etc, the mail you do re this site etc, when do you sleep? Went thru your photos- like wow it appears you have many 'irons in the fire'-
am amazed that your digesters have enough internal pressure to force out the sludge..Have you tried the sludge mixed with other plant waste in a cold (worm) compost?
Take your point re the billions eating veggies grown from sewage sludge..Lotta prejudice to overcome unfortunately. When we get hungry enough we'll get beyond that sorta thinking..
Cheers..rick
