"Hi Austin. Greg here in Alpharetta, GA. I wanted to say hello again and see how your progress was coming along. I remember you had some pretty big goals and had discussed building a large commercial project. How are you doing? Greg McCord"
Thanks for your comments. My system is just for personal consumption. I don't know why aquaponics has not become more widespread. I would like to see aquaponics grow to provide localized commercial sources of food. It makes so much…"
Sounds awesome. Because I currently live in an apartment, I am restricted to smaller systems. Due to known government restrictions and requirements of permits, I'm considering not growing fish altogether :(
Do you plan to grow for personal…"
I have an aquaponics system set up in my 8'x12' greenhouse in West Roxbury. It has been in operation only for about 1 month. It has a 70 gallon fish tank with 25 blue gill fingerlings and one 2'x3' grow bed. I am…"
"Beans, and other legumes.... do not fix nitrogen....
The symbiotic bacteria that live in the legume root nodules... fix the nitrogen....
And it's fixed... only released.. when the plant is "turned" back into the soil... or…"
"And beneficials. My son has been telling me what to plant for repelling baddies and attracting the goodies. We recently pruned back a huge haystack of an aquaponic nasturtium, and I was surprised to see the large number of black aphids. Closer…"
"The basics of nutrients (taken care of in aquaponics), water (taken care of in aquaponics), and light are the things to most worry about. So, try to keep tall plants where short plants need them and vice versa."
"I have been using companion planting and square foot gardening and so on for years.
With my AP system, I started with some of that and now have volunteer plants showing up all over the place and can not even think about what is growing by…"
"I'm not an expert on the subject, the information is from "The complete guide to Companion Planting - Dale Mayer". While the book does tends to deal more with soil-based agricultural methods, I was interested to see if anyone has used…"
"Not sure about the statement that plants "take in nitrogen in the air"... or "excrete micro-nutrients from their roots"....
And as far as plant spacing is concerned... with a variety of plant types... I've never seen…"

Hi Austin. Are you planning to set up a farm there in the Boston area on a large scale or small scale? My partner James and I hope to build a 96' long by 38' wide "Hoop" style green house and expand on our current growing capabilities. We are very excited about the future and are always looking for friends to communicate with. We won't be able to attend the AP conference in Denver this year but we will be sure to make it next year. Are you going this year to Denver? Greg
Austin, please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org. My father in law taught economics and business classes at Boston U. I'd be interested in discussing market penetration and the role of AP in traditional produce production and distribution models.
