The often overlooked fish option that can handle the high temperatures like tilapia but also the cool temperatures like catfish but still be small enough for a 100 gallon tank and acceptable to eat for people who refuse fish who lack scales.

There are various suppliers, and it depends on which store is near you. Carolina Fish Hatchery has a published schedule (south Virginia, No....
I called my local Southern States. Here's the link to their storefinder. The Southern States pond page says:
"Where can I obtain fish to stock in my pond?
"Southern States dealers sponsor a Fish Days promotion where pond owners can order different species of fish to stock their ponds. Check with your local Southern States dealer for the Fish Days promotion in your area."

I recently added 60 (2-3") BG to my 700 Gal system (250 G FT) and will be adding 50 more very soon. I had Tilapia before but switched when temps dropped and all 128 tilapia died. My question is, I…Continue

I caught a bluegill while fishing several months ago and put it in my 250 gallon tank. It does well with the other fish (catfish, crawdads, minnows, goldfish, bullfrog tadpoles, etc). Recently I…Continue

Anyone doing it in tanks or planning to do it? How? Any strategy for culturing phytoplankton/zoo plankton in the tank prior to breeding? Thoughts on selective breeding?Continue

Stephanie: Possibly pre-spawn behavior, considering the time of year but that's a guess.
I have ten bluegill in my pond, and normally they are very skittish and the only time i see them is if i sneak up on them, but soon as they see me they zip down to the bottom of the pond. Until today, i came home at lunch and this one was sitting between two of the large rocks just chilling out and didn't so much as move when i kneeling right above to take this picture. so my first thought is that it's sick but i don't see anything wrong with it besides that it's not running away from me. I didn't see any wounds or any suspicious spots on it. Any idea what would trigger that kind of change in behavior? the pond is three tiered and this is the first tier. Normally they are always on the second or third one.
Paul Fish Farms is over in the Panhandle of FL
Or
Florida Fish Farms is down in Center Hill in Central FL
But if you only need a few and can bring a bucket or cooler with a battery powered aerator for the drive home I can sell small quantities since I currently have 100 small bluegill in a cage of the big tank. I'm down in Yalaha, FL which is central FL not too far from the North End of the Turnpike.
I do, although I accidentally killed most of them (95) a couple of weeks ago. A few survived and I brought a few in from a lake since then. My goal is to do some breeding in the spring. No hatcheries close by.
Hi, I am new to this, anyone have bluegill in Jacksonville, FL? Thanks!
Bluegill love to feed on meal worms. Its so exciting tossing one in, they don't last more then a half second before there attacked by a hungry BG. Very enjoyable for my girlfriend and I to watch. Gonna get some BSF to try out, saw they are better to feed then meal worms.
The netting around the fish tank is plastic gutter guard. It didn't cover the entire gap between the growbed and FT but i never lost any fish so i guess it worked well.
Yeah i took the top 2 struts off and lowered them down and drilled holes to mount them. This was a raft so it didn't have all the weight from gravel. The zip ties worked well but some did break, so i will use some stainless wire on it before i use it again.
Tony, right now you are reading posts to the comment wall of a group. Just above the comments area there is the discussion forum area and you could "add a discussion" there where you can post pictures and whatever. Or if you already have a discussion somewhere for your system we might sometimes call that a thread since that discussion might have a common thread of being all about your system.
As to the picture with the media bed over the tank. I'm guessing the zip ties are just holding some netting up. I expect the grow bed is actually sitting on the metal frame.
