How did you find us?: Search engine (Google)

If you found us through a search engine, what search words were you using?: aquaponics

Are you an aquaponic gardener already?: No

If so, what type of system? (pick all that apply): raft

How old is your system?: Just started

Please tell us something else about yourself.: I am still working on the system. culture tank is a 55 gal drum as is the bio filter. Mechanical filter sits on top of biofilter which drains into 2 half barrels for rafts. This a project for myself and my grandson. Debating between perch or tilapia.

The ammonia level 2ppm doesn't seem to be going down. Nitrites are zero but nitrate level is 80 to 160 ppm. The ammonia level actually increased when I added ph down after checking ph and found it 8.5ppm. Am I just being impatient. Also, has anyone raised bluegills? I checked and they tolerate a wide variation in water temperature. Here in Michigan I will need to heat in winter but not as warm as tilapia.
