@Nance Black Woods - Dutch Bucket Hydroponics - How It Works & How to Make Your Own ...
Nance call me
Does anyone have easy / inexpensive plans for building tables/shelves for use with a dutch bucket system? I'd have to build it by myself to it needs to be easy. Many thanks!
Granite is good, Heavy but good. And heavy can be good if you grow lots of really tall big plants. Heavy gravel helps keep the corn from blowing over.
Kimberly, We also have a granite quarry just 1/2 hr drive thru the mtns from here and pay 18.00 per ton. We bring our own 1 ton trailer and hope they stay under 2 tons (poor trailer). We love it. Easy to wash right in the GBs. (I did a pic thread on how I do the wash right in the IBC GB at the IBC Group) And keep in mind that granite dust is prized for the minerals so as the bacteria break it down it will add to the health of your veggies (and you). I see no need for anything else and it looks great
Hey Guys I know it;s heavier but I have a granite quarry just up the road and I can get it in what ever size gravel I want. A pickup truck cost $25. Baets spending a fortune on Media. It say in the book tha granit is OK. I can also mix in the clay pellets later when I I have replenished my $$$$$$

I, I, I don't have worms yet *sigh* - they are on the way. I feel so inadequate
Pulling roots, I suppose it depends on how heavily you are planting, how heavily you are feeding, the size of your media and the density of your worm population.
We will often pull up the plant roots (well most of them, lots always break off to decompose) and all cut off the root stump and leave it to dry out for a day or two on top of the media (lets worms escape) then later shake off the gravel and put the roots in the worm bin.
Is it really necessary to pull the roots? If you leave them to decay, won't the worms eat them? I'll admit I pull my roots in the AP system, but I leave the roots in my soil garden.
When I pull my plants the lava rock comes out with the roots. give a shake and they fall out - like I said lava rock is light so it pulls up easy.
