I am a personal chef in the Seattle area. This small tank is phase 1 in an experiment to learn/teach about organic/sustainable indoor farming of fish & veggies in small spaces. If this is successful, I want to move to phase two in the spring to grow veggies with ornamental fish (no room for edibles) in my apt.
UPDATE: 4-25-11 Phase 2 is starting. 55 gallon is half filled and I believe it to be fully mature system ready to plant crops in a vertical grow system as soon as we get a little more light here in the NW.

How to follow my full adventures in aquaponics

Of course I'll have updates on here and be asking questions as I learn, but full updates of my tank can be found on my blog, Chef Ricky's FoodStream and also on my FB page.

A guide to indoor AP

Posted on September 14, 2011 at 1:09pm 2 Comments

I just posted a short guide on starting your own indoor AP system.  My personal blog is all my AP updates that happen, and at the end of a year I wanted to write a short guide for those wishing to start inside as well, and trying to answer all the questions I had.  I have referenced this site/forums/store many times in the post as you all have been very helpful as a community - and I hope to bring in a few more PNW members.

Please check it out if you have time, as I would love any…

Some national advertising for Aquaponics

Posted on November 23, 2010 at 8:00pm 2 Comments

Hey everyone, I hope a blog post on here is a good way to get this out. As I'm stillnew to this community, most of you don't know that I am a personal chef in Seattle. I am in a campaign with HP & Palm (and got a free phone and service for awhile from Palm) that is not only highlighting my food & services, but also my experience with aquaponics and trying to spread the word about its benefits in Seattle, WA (where I live) They have a FB page set up for me (seperate from my own)…

Hi Ricky, I'm located in Kirkland WA, I was wondering if you would be interested in working on an open source project to develop an aquaponic greenhouse for developing nations.

Hey, Ricky.

It's fun to keep up on your project. Will it carry into the school year?

Hi Ricky,
I live in Roy, WA about 20 minutes south of Tacoma. So we share quite a bit I would guess: climate, supply availability, etc. Do you know of any restrictions? Like importing different fish species?

It certainly made my day, that's for sure! I'm an iPhone addict so I had this baby loaded up within 3 minutes of finding out about it. Glad there is at least one other person who is as excited about it as I am!

Hi Ricky,

Thanks for joining the Aquaponic Gardening community! I hope you find it a fun place to explore aquaponics. There is a real blend of experienced and new aquapons in this community, so please don’t hesitate to get in there and start asking questions. Everyone is quite happy to help out new members – no question is too basic.

A great place to start is to read the How to Use This Site link on the upper right corner, “Start Here” section of the Main page.

Please add a photo of yourself and participate!

Thanks again for joining us, and I look forward to getting to know you (especially since my daughter goes to UDub!)

Sylvia
