I was very excited a couple of weeks ago to see these tiny little sparkling fish in amongst the guppy babies. I hastened to get them out and into a small aquarium in my house. They big Tilipia will consume them quickly. Over the last 2 weeks I probably have saved around 200 babies. I am excited about this because my only source of baby Tilipia wants $1.00 per fingerling. I just told him no way. He had been charging $.50 but decided he wanted more. If I can raise my own I am just that much happier. They really grow fast. I just need to make sure I don't overfeed them and spoil the water. I turn the filter on once a day for a little while but it is too strong for the size they are. One amazing thing I found out when I tried to catch them. Even though they are so tiny and young they know to get out of the way if you come after them. It takes some doing to get them in your net.. Just thought I would tell you about my excitement.

One of the guys, at another fourum....said he feeds his fry, killed yeast flakes from the health food store, for the 1st few days. He just rubs it between his fingers, to get it into a powder.

I agree....It's really is fun to find the little guys Rachel....you see them as 'money saved'...I see them as 'dinners to be had'.
Earl, I'm glad I'm not the only one that has turned a coffeee grinder into fish food grinder....lol. I think my fry got a caffine 'buzz' the first time :-)
I've got some very high protien/high density food, that I'm grinding for them.Man, do they grow fast !

I take the Aqua-max 300 and put it into a hand held coffee grinder until its powder put about a teaspoon a day. If you have a power filter on the tank, I take one of the filter bags and place it over the intake pipe that goes in the aquarium use an electrical cable tie to hold it in place slows down the flow and keeps the babies out of the filter. I currently have about 150-200 babies in the 40 gal tank in the house.

Yep the little tiny fry are fun and can also be challenging. If you can get some high protein powder feed for them it might get them off to a better start.

Actually now, your biggest challenge will be controlling the population so you actually manage to grow some eating size fish instead of winding up with a tank full of breeding 4 inch fish.

good Luck with them
