Has anyone used charcoal as a medium to replace Hydroton clay pellets?

Last year I was continuing my pee ponics or humonia AKA fisless AP experiment to grow a variety of veggies in different media and found thet initial results seem to be possitive enough to test it further. I was wondering if anyone else has any experience that they would like to share.
