Fish-less Systems

This is a group for people who have any kinds of fish-less systems, but yet are not doing classical hydroponics. Where we can share what we have come to find about making-home made nutrients, oganic-hydro, pee-ponics, worm tea hydro, bio-ponics, home-made buffers, water chemistry or anything else that is perhaps inappropriate for fish. As well as experimenting and sharing results for  things that might be alright for our aquatic critters.

Warning... Much of what may be contained here may, or may not be a good idea to apply to a system populated with living, breathing, happy fish, crustaceans or any other aquatic life. So be smart...

Some plants grow better in my raft, others in my flood and drain?

Another term I think is appropriate to this thread is

Bio-ponic (now Aquaponics counts as bio-ponic but not all bio-ponics counts as Aquaponics.)

Great idea for a group, Vlad. As much as I enjoy hijacking other threads, it seems like we have disjointed conversations, randomly interjecting replies to each other on the most recent reply, no matter where it is. Funny.

I have given my tilapia hell by adding all sorts of products to boost k and p. You have had the sense to separate the fish from the system before experimenting. Thanks for the detail of your nute recipe, btw, much appreciated. Do you treat your humonia before adding it, or just piss away? Many will be turned off by the whole concept, but I don't have any problem with it. I have one 400 gallon system with non-edible plants that I piss in all the time, well, once or twice a week if I'm nearby and nature calls. I don't see any difference in my piss and the fish piss, or worm piss, etc. Fish don't mind, plants love it, and the biological filter is so strong I bet it doesn't last an hour in there. I wouldn't do so in a commercial tank, simply for the sake of others that would find it objectionable.

Well, it seems like recently we've 'hi-jacked' a number of threads, and there is all sorts of interesting info of this nature scattered throughout various discussions here on APGardeningCommunity. Hopefully we can consolidate a lot of that here within a group.
