Hello, Have a few answers for ya but also a few questions. You say standard 3 IBC setup but mention 5 objects: tank, sump, 3 beds. Can you explain a little more. Also need to know what type of fish you plan on using. Koi/tilapia/?.
James
Hello all,
We are planning on an IBC system in the back yard in Phoenix and have some questions concerning layout. The backyard is on the north side of the house and also slopes up to the north away from the house. Protecting the fish tank from the heat in the summer, but letting the sun heat the tank in the winter is one goal; the other is setting up the grow beds to take best advantage of the sun throughout the year. Shade cloth for mid-summer is already a plan, but with the shading from the house in the winter, would an arrangement with the FT on the south side of the GB be best or should it be placed somewhere else? Also, would arranging the GB's in a N/S alignment work best overall or would a different setup work?
Seems like a south-facing backyard would have helped in this planning, but it's too late to turn our house around.
The plan is a 3-IBC system; full IBC for the fish, a sump, and three grow beds, (pretty standard). We plan to sink the sump and the FT into the ground at least partially. Any suggestions in favor or against that idea?
Thanks for the help. Glad to see so much help out there.
This message is for the moderators of this page. David Schwinghamer in particular. 7 years ago, before I even knew about this group, I was very interested in Aquaponics and for fun, I created a facebook page called "AZ Aquaponics". Without lifting a finger, or posting a single thing, I got over 900 likes this year. Obviously the real AZ Aquaponic community is making some noise!!!! I would like some help running the facebook page by the people in this group and I want to become more active in this community. I need to learn more. Please contact me at Nickthepace@gmail.com or call me at 610-952-0624. My name is Nick. I would be happy to make you guys the administrators with me for the AZ Aquaponics facebook page, it is a great networking platform! Cheers
Good morning Arlene. I would be interested in them. I will be running around all morning. give me a shout if still available. James 602-466-0388
I am going to be selling my house, and I need to 'clear out' all the stuff. I have a 45 gallon fish tank with a small grow bed on it and some goldfish, (3 that are about 4" long), couple of plecos, and a couple of loaches. I would like to give them to someone. does anyone want?
I've found expanded shale is not as readily (locally) available in most area and paying shipping is out of the question. I used expanded clay with no problems and t lower cost I used lava rock in the lower half of my second bed. I took out the larger pieces to get more surface area.
i looked for expanded shale as well here in PHX, no luck..
OK been combing the web trying to find expanded shale here in Phoenix area? Not having much luck. SO a shout out to you all. Anyone know who might sell this stuff here in the Valley? Oh BTW hi all been off the forms for a few years due to a Motorcycle wreck. But auqaponics been running good for a bout 3-4 years now. Just lost all my fish on the Monday night storm due to power outage. But Hey, Just pull some of the babies out and feed them.
I have one rock bed finally had to clean it out after about 3.5 years. I grew nothing but tomatoes in and the roots finally goober up the tank and had to wash the BA-Zillion tiny roots to keep it from plugging up the Bell siphon.
Greetings my friends. You are invited this Friday July 3rd. This months subject at the Arizona Science Center, Aquaponics. Here is the link:
