Gotcha. I'm just wondering if it will help much. Lets see if it will :)

making places for the fry to hide is a good idea Bob, but future batches need it to hide from this batch, not the folks, the adults could care less if there are fry swimming about, that is if they are well fed...

Males are fighting. Isn't this a sign that the good ol procreation is about to take place? I've made some "fish houses" for the smaller fish to hide out in out of 5 1' long PVC pipes stacked. I figure that if they are going to do the mouth dance and the young magically happen to make it to fry size they'll be able to hide in between the pipes.

Has any one successfully pulled this off? By "this", I mean the lazy part of letting the fish do their normal thing. :)

Hi Lisa:

Welcome aboard.

Yep it's there: http://community.theaquaponicsource.com/main/search/search?q=fodder

there is a search function in the upper right near your name, you may have to scroll up to find it.

Good Luck!,

Jim

Hello I am new to AP. I was wondering if anyone grows Fodder?

Kim Romen

I have two gravel grow beds each 6'x4'  and a DWC bed at 8'x4'

So that's about 80 sq feet of growing area.

... and it's not enough...

My next plan is a 8'x4' wicking bed plumbed in to the AP system.   Maybe I'll get it built this summer.  Maybe...

I have shade cloth up.

John, how many square feet of growing space do u have?  i need to make sure i want to go as big as i'm thinking (150 square feet).  i love the gardening but don't want to become a slave to it.

all looks great!  your tomato plants look nice and green.  mine that get morning sun look great, but those that get afternoon sun are producing but leaves are drying up some.

anyone have shade cloth on yet?  my grapes are giving some coverage but they really take off after we've picked the grapes off, so that'll still be another mth or so

Nichole, that is the same wall where i am thinking of putting my new garden bed: north wall, southern exposure, full day sun.  my current system is on my East wall (west facing), so has all afternoon sun and pretty much sun all day.  I've failed with soild gardens there, although am sure it's partially cuz i'm a street away from south mtn and my soil is useless for growing here; pure caliche, no drainage...  i always added compost but it wasn't good enough and prob should've done raised beds, but here I am with AP.  Raised beds are so pretty, i may still give them a shot later.

as for grapes, mine are in that spot (west facing) and do fabulous in the dirt on my arbor.  glad to hear they will do well on wrought iron!  At the tour today i saw someone doing an apple aspalier on their wrought iron fence and someone else doing grapes.  yeah!  :)
