When buying solar look at cost per watt.  Those HF panels are about $3 per watt not a good price.  A good price per watt would be under $1 per watt. Those HF panel are old tech mono panels. They are very inefficient and thus take up more space than necessary. The amount of watts depends on the pumps you  use. HF does have 12v pumps I have never tried them but it would be better to use all 12v and no inverters. Inverters have a low efficiency rating but would allow for 110v pumps. Running the system 24-7 would need batteries. Batteries and panels will need a power regulator. Most solar stores will be able to help you figure out a good system there are to many variables. Check out  craigslist.org  for panels.

been considering the solar option.  I just saw a harbor freight add for a 45w solar set up going fo 188.00 that is usually 255.00,  a battery and a converter would still be required though

Being that this is AZ, how many of you are running your aquaponics on solar(if any)? What solar set ups do you have? I've been curious about setting something up to run my tank's pumps off the sun.

Oh, I also forgot, I too need red wigglers, (in the Central Phoenix, Christown area if possible), and want to report that my IBC shows water temps at 80 degrees, I have it under the back awning, and shaded with insulated board on the south and east facing sides since the IBC sits about 2 feet under the east end of the awning. I have two smaller aquarium tanks and tubs in the house, and guess I have problems getting the bell siphons to function properly. But the plants and fish are doing fine. Of course, I'm still working with mollies and goldfish, and some of those ugly platy-something or others...

I have squigley lines on my cucumber plant leaves, I need to know if anyone knows what kind of parasite/bug is attacking the leaves, as they are eating the leaves and destroying my plants! (sorry, don't know how to post photos)
