I did a whole bunch of research on liners for fish tank and grow beds and finally came down to using the Total Pond Pond Skins from Home Depot. For the $100 I managed to line the 500 gallon fish tank and two 6'x4' media beds, with zero wasted liner.
It's not cheap, but shipping costs usually prohibits other options. It seems to be a good product and claims to be fish safe. It's tough and relatively easy to work with.
There are lots of different opinions about liners and what is suitable and what is not. For me, it came down to the impact it would have on me and my system if I got it wrong. I really don't want to have to drain the fish tank and empty the growbeds, dig up the plants, move all the rock, etc, etc, if I find out that the liner isn't any good for whatever reason. i.e. toxic to fish / humans, gets holes easily, etc. So I sucked it up and paid the $100.
Hey Sheri and Vlad
Thanks for the info, I updated the link
@Matt - Devin Duhaime uses 6 mill polyethylene. But I'd rather be able to sleep at night
@Bob: Hmmm. I guess when we harvest this week well go to the greenhouse after dark and start a fire. :) LOL!
Got a question about GB and FT liners. Just went to home depot and picked up a pond liner for my grow bed - it cost me 60 bucks and wasn't to pleased with the price. Does anyone else have any suggestions for a cheaper liner? Maybe tarp or something, just trying to find a more affordable alternative for the fish tank as I don't want to throw down another 60 bucks. Thanks.

@Vlad - When I read your message I cringed, thinking maybe I had ordered the wrong bulb. But I checked and confirmed this is a vertical bulb.
The crazy thing is - it was working, but it took too long to ignite so I moved the ballast up next to the bulb. Reducig the wire length from the ballast to the bulb by about 12 feet has made the bulb ignite much faster, but this is also when I began to have this problem.
Now it ignites within a few seconds, but quits before reaching full brightness.
When I get it figured out I'll be sure to post the findings.
Well if it's a matched ballast/ignitor bulb set then it's probably not that...and I'm sure you know how to wire up the things....Bob, are you sure you didn't get a horizontal bulb? CMH bulbs are positional. They come in a vertical type, or a horizontal type, and cannot be used in both positions
@Matt - This guy has a lot of good videos about fiberglass. Probably more then you even want to watch.
