James Matthew- I also wanted to try kang kong for juicing.  Found someone selling seeds on ebay and they are located in Mesa.  Took a chance and ordered some.  If they are viable I can send you a few.

Scott,

I was actually thinking of giving that a try. I wonder how long it would take to flood them out? Hour? 2? Hmmm...

Thanks!

Assuming you are using a bell siphon, take the bell out extend the pipe to a height that will allow the media to be completely flooded. Leave it that way long enough to hopefully force the critters out of the media so you can feed them to the fish.

Hi all!

Last year spinach seemed to be the easiest crop to grow and kept going all winter long. Obviously, I figured I'd go at it again this year. I added a pack of seeds to one grow bed. A month went by and no sprouts. So I added another pack of seeds and another month goes by with no sprouts.

Today I dug down and looked at where the seeds had laid and I saw baby pill bugs at that depth. I'm thinking maybe the pill bugs are eating the sprouts as they emerge from the seeds. This I hope is not the case as doing transplants of spinach doesn't sound like fun.

Could this be the reason why my spinach hasn't sprouted? If so, how do you fight this battle?

I stumbled on this and i had not seen it in a long time. Since this is aquaponics group, I think it is pertinent to many of our own desires. This documentary is a 'dare to dream' and while if you watch it, you might start out saying, ah, this won't work, is utopia, he actually addresses many of my skepticism. So, it does excite me, in a dare to dream sort of way. After all, who in the medieval times, when the King was considered God on earth, and your station is life was pre-ordained, would have thought current democracy and equality possible?

Just a thought, on this wonderful thanksgiving, for which I am grateful not to be homeless, hungry, or wounded in war.

I'll be selling my system come March or so for anyone planning ahead or if anyone here knows of anyone looking to start or grow an AP system.  I'll post some pics at some point. system is a 2 IBC tote garden bed, IBC sump, and IBC fishtank, have them feel free to contact me.  kim romen @ yahoo.

sad to sell it but more on that later.  i'm moving it to make room for a bigger area of water.

John, i thought u pulled your tomato plants and were going to start new?  what time of year do u do that?  mine didn't do well over the summer so i had to start over, now.  according to the calendar it was time to start them.  i'll cover them on the cold nights.  amazing what 2 goldfish will do!!!
