Answer: heat your water so it doesn't get to cold

This is our first winter with Tilapia.  What is the best way to keep them from dying from the cold?

Thank you Dr. Brooks I will be sure and pay attention to the concentration.

When you purchase your acid be sure to know what concentrate you are getting. For example the acid at Fry's supermarket is about 20% while that from the swimming pool store is closer to 35%.

Thanks Sheri! Yes the bacteria was well worth it.  You have some powerful stuff there.  Good to hear about the PH Down will go to the Muriatic.  I have a couple other beds at the house I want to put the wigglers in so if you have some I would love to buy them from you.

Randy, I'll give you some wigglers for your system. You won't need many for your size, and they will reproduce according the the food supply for them. Also, I agree, no PH Down. Use Muriatic acid.  Doesn't take much, and you can add it to some prep water in advance before adding it to the system.
Yay on the cycling! That was nice and quick! Don't you just love bacteria?

Pat, I didn't mean to imply that our typical lot is an acre! I wish! LOL! Here we're flatlanders, for the most part, and acre lots are hard to come by. A "typical" acre lot here is rectangular. But even with the space, they try to regulate. We want to be open about what we do because it's healthy. Why should we have to hide? So we're trying to get some of our freedom back and educate those who have lost touch with real food. :)
