@John. What type of Chinese cabbage? Usually we fix our asian greens like their closest "American" relative and they come out fine.
Nice harvest. How many pounds?
Anyone know how to prepare chinese cabbage for eating. It's a new on on me. It was on the list of things that I should plant, so I threw some seed down. They've done well and now it's time to eat.
@ Dr George. I love AP radishes. They grow so quickly and taste great. The only problem is that they never make it to the kitchen. They're just the right size to snack on while working in the garden.
Another week, another bowl of beans. I'm more than happy with what I'm harvesting off these plants. This is the third harvest. Also pulled a chinese cabbage and some lettuce. It is a good day.
John, nice beans you have there!
Miriam, where are you located, and what size tanks are you working with? How many fish do you have and what size?
We have a colony that we're "retiring" to our big tank because they're too big for our breeding tank. I'll be happy to show you how to sex them. To breed, though, they like temps around 86 and ph around 6.8.
Bob, Algae loves warmth, light (particularly sunlight), and moisture. It slows down and may even stop during the winter. If you plan to keep your system warm, though, (like in the 80's,) you can minimize algae by blocking the light.
Hey folks
Does algae go dormant with the lower temperatures?
If so, I.m thinking of heating my 700 gallon FT by direct solar and then putting the insulated cover on when the temperature starts to drop.
Comments would be appreciated.
i am interested in starting a breeding colony for my tilapia. Does anyone out there have any thoughts on the subject. I am not sure how to sex the tilapia i already have to separate them for my plan. Would it be easier to purchase a separate breeding colony instead? If so, does anyone know where I could get one locally? Aquaponics really gets addicting. Started off with a small system and now I have no more room in the greenhouse. Not complaining though.
Beans
I thought my experiment of pole beans in the DWC bed was a mistake. The plants grew well enough and then showed signs of some sort of nutrient deficiency. I added iron and potassium, but they still looked sickly.
This morning as I was walking past the beans I noticed a long pod dangling and swaying in the wind. Hmmm - where there's one, there's usually more. In this case, lots more...
Bugguide is a great site! And yes, in spite of their potential damage, every critter has its purpose.
