i haven't used a heater in a few weeks now.  I shut off the pump between 4:30pm and 9:30am when the sun isn't hitting the solar heater Jim Troyer made 4 me.  water is in the 60s

How large were your Tilapia when they started breeding. I have a 55 tall that I might through 4 into to see if I get a pair.

I got lucky with a Christmas present from my fish... 200-300 fry. Finally figured out how to get them to cooperate. Put them in a 55 gallon aquarium in my house to watch and learn. All they want to do is eat. Got another couple hundred 2 weeks later. Put them in a 5 gallon bucket for now. I have a second IBC draining into my fish tank now and will eventually put them all in there when they're ready.

I do have air pumps in my tank, so was never worried about that. I also have a 275 gal tank, I also have probably close to 40 fish in my tank (I really need to expand my grow area)  Never seemed to have an issue with the oxygen.  I would check my tank every morning and the fish are usually close to the bottom, I figured if they needed oxygen they would be at the surface gulping for air, like that one video that David showed us with the tilapia gulping for air.

Matt, I was turning off my pump at night too for the same reason but after several days doing that I think I almost killed my fish. I think over a period of days the oxygen level depleted and things got real bad real fast. I an aerator and left the pump on and the water cleared up and the fish were good the next day. This was a 250 gallon tank with 12 Tilapia in it.

I'm not sure what my Temp range is on my tank (lost my thermometer) , I do the finger test right now and I would say it's in the 70's  just a little cooler then the actual temp outside.  I also have three 400 watt fish heaters and I stop the pumps at night to help keep the fish tank warmer at night.

@Aaron Brooks That proofing box sounds like just the thing.  I love simple implementations.  If I need something more permanent that would be a good option.

At the moment the top of the DVR is remarkably consistent between 80-85F, which is where I want it.  Added another couple of plastic bags to the pile this weekend.

To be honest, I had so many seeds germinate last week that I've got more than enough.  I'll have to expand my seedling growing area next!

Correction to below. I meant to say electronic meat thermometer, not thermostat. The temp is adjusted with the dimmer switch.

@ J Malone-

I have been baking bread for a long time and I built my own proofing box. It is a styrofoam box with a halogen bulb and electronic thermostat placed on the inside. You plug the bulb into a dimmer switch, so the brightness can be adjusted. I can keep my box at any temp between room temperature and 105 degrees with only 1 degree of variance. I built the whole box for 15 dollars. This might be helpful when you are germinating your peppers.

@Matt

What's your tank temps ranging at now?
