Jacques, Man you have a lot more patience than I do. I read your blog. Nice set up. Congratulations. This is my first year and I'm lovin' it but not sure where I'm going with it yet. Raising Tilapia has been easy so far but now I have to get the veggies to cooperate.

Oh Happy Day!

Finally wrapped up the last two grow beds on my AP.. and it only took me a little under two years ;)

Thankfully they are complete and now I've got double the grow area (48sf) ;)

As always, I like to write up my progress on my blog, so if  you're interested in perusing ;)

Big thanks to everyone here!

Lots of great feedback helped immensely during the build process in order to refine the final design.

Hey all! It has been a while since I've posted. Mostly due to work but I'm still at it. I'm about to add a new tank to the system, 150-200gal, haven't done the math on this yet. I'm, planning on using a reclaimed wooden shelf that is just short of 3' deep with a pond liner. I have 2 problems with this so far that made me look to all of you for ideas/answers.

1. What is a good safe(organic certified maybe?) pond liner to use that can with stand our super awesome summer sun?

2. I have an irrigated lot. I don't want to put this thing up to high since my IBC tote's grow bed height(shoulder height) is the reason I am doing this. I'm tired of climbing a latter to pick my broccoli! The bottom of the tank will end up getting wet so I'd like to know what would be a good way to seal it from the irrigation water. Only the lower 8" would get wet. I suppose I could burm around it but that sounds like a four letter word - WORK ;) Any pointers here?

Thanks!

@ Kim

@ Chris:  Enjoy that local food!  And bring back some fun seeds too!  I watched an episode of Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmern eating local food there and it looked amazing!  Enjoy!

To all of my aquaponics friends here on the Arizona Aquaponics Group, I am headed off to Haiti tomorrow afternoon to volunteer on an aquaponics project.  GardenPool.org, a local non-profit organization, is building an aquaponics greenhouse and tilapia pond for a medical clinic in Cash, Haiti, in the northern part of Haiti near Cap-Haitian.  We will be building with local materials; locally made block and bamboo, and Dennis (CEO/President of GardenPool) will be teaching a Garden Pool Design Certification course in both Creole and English while we are there.  So, when I return I will be a Garden Pool Designer (woohoo!). We are building the greenhouse to enable the Naturopaths to grow fresh vegetables and medicinal herbs for the clinic.  There are five of us going, one person from Hawaii, one person from New Jersey and three of us from Arizona (plus the two Naturopaths that are already stationed in Haiti).  Check out the GardenPool.org website for more information.  We will be posting loads of pictures from the build after our return on March 1st, both on the website and at the Garden Pool Meetup group site.   Wish us a safe and healthy journey.....!  See you all when I return!  (no electricity while we are there, so there won't be any news while we are away)

u really DO have to watch Jim with scissors!  we'll see if my grape vine thx him this summer.  :)  i'm jealous about the cherry tomatoes Matt!  i remember how good they tasted when i stopped by.  i think i'll start a new couple from seed and see if that makes a difference and compare to the transplants i've been trying to get going again.  makes me think even more of some sort of greenhouse!

just got some seed 4 for $1 at the dollar store btw folks.  not gmo or oganic, but if u're looking for cheap seeds, that's the place to go.  although, maybe that's why i have always had probs with seed!  i don't think it's the seed, but it could be.  i stock up and keep them around too long, i think.  exp date of later this year on the ones i just bought.
