Scott, we'll take the food. Do you want anything in return? I figure if it's not good enough for the fish it'll make good fertilizer. I'll check with Bob to see when we can pick it up. I'll email you.

I am old and retired. Well old.. I have time to go to anyplace that has items of interest (aquaponics). I plan to retire to my place outside of Van Horn Texas. 

While I am here, I will do all I can to promote self-sustainability and learn for myself.

Scott, I'm sure the nutritional content of fresh food is best, but I'm not even sure how old the food is when we get it from the warehouses or stores. If it doesn't smell rancid from decaying fats, it should be OK. Even if it is a bit off, I'm not sure it would be bad for the fish if it's natural food. Most fish are scavengers & eat pretty nasty stuff in nature.
Dave, congrats on your tomato! I have lettuce & tomatillos growing like monsters, but everything else is inching along.

Mine aren't large enough, Dave. I know there are laws about selling meat, but I don't know what they are. I believe there are both state and city laws. That's probably why the Asian markets sell them live. Are you a member of the Valley Permaculture Alliance (VPA)?

For those who don't know, the VPA (http://PhoenixPermiculture.org) has an aquaponics group. It's focus is the Phx area, but there's nothing that would keep a Tucsonian from being involved in the conversations.

Pak choi, Ocra, and Papaya were my big winners for growth last summer.

Now I am in a greenhouse, expecting great things from many plants. Picked a tomato this morning..

I was told that food will last a year or more if cool and dry.

When my fish start to reproduce, I will share.
