Thanks for the info Sheri, fortunately these licenses dont apply to us. You got my curiousity going with the golden perch, we can compare notes soon.

I'm not sure if that permit applies. I looked into it a while back because I want to be legit, & the instructions state it's a 20 day permit. It's clearly geared toward transporting and stocking game fish. Here are the instructions: http://www.azgfd.gov/eservices/special_licenses/aquatic_stocking.shtml

So I looked into the state laws referenced in the document and it still doesn't seem to appy. BUT, per ARS 3-16 (sounds like a football game!) it appears there's state license required if we want to possess or rear these guys. It says:

A. A person may not engage in any of the following activities relating to aquaculture unless the person possesses a current valid license issued by the division:

1. Aquaculture facility activities, including selling, trading, displaying, purchasing, exporting, possessing, propagating and rearing live aquatic animals or plants.

2. Transporting live aquatic animals to persons who are licensed to resell, process or stock aquatic animals.

3. Processing facility activities, including cleaning, reshaping or packing fresh or frozen aquatic animals or plants for distribution or resale.

4. Operating a fee fishing facility that permits the public to remove aquatic animals by any harvesting method from a privately controlled body of water as authorized by the direct or indirect payment of a fee.

B. This chapter does not apply to state or federal game and fish agencies.

Problem is, the way it's written we'd have to get a license to have an aquarium. So I looked up their definition of Aquaculture facility:

1. "Aquaculture" or "aquaculture facility" means the controlled propagation, growth and harvest of aquatic animals or plants, including fish, amphibians, shellfish, mollusks, crustaceans, algae and vascular plants.

You have to show plans for the systems also, sort of like a building blue print.

The fish and game also state that the tanks that hold the fish are not drained into any water (river, lake,etc.) in Az.

I called the game and fish department and they said that we do need a permit for raising fish in our backyard even if its for personal consumption.the regional office for the permit is in Mesa. 

the address is 7200 east University Mesa, 85207.

You can download the form from the link above, it is the 2710A form. The permit is free and you can use this permit to buy fish.

Yes they will do a tour anytime, actually Im going up there on Friday to buy some fingerlings. I think thats best for me now because then I would have time to get my main system finished before I transfer bigger fish. Does anyone know about using Australian perch (golden perch) in AZ? I've heard they can handle hotter climates & are high in omega 3, but I don't know anything else about them.
