Keeping out door Tilapia warm in winter in Phoenix.

Hi Everyone,

We are looking at buidling IBC ponds and I am wondering how to keep the Tilapia warm enough in the winter. Here are some questions:

1. Do you find using heaters cost prohibitive?

2. Do you harvest in fall and restock in Spring?

3. Will insultating the tank and covering it with clear plastic do the job during our coldest days?

Other thoughts on this?

We change our cycling according to the seasons and (being in AZ) the humidity...or lack thereof.

You are right, Jerry and Don have a great setup going although I think they could have many more grow beds than what they have. I guess that is why they want to build a bigger greenhouse soon. My mother lives exactly one mile south of them so I will be checkin in soon. They are great guys and I also learned a lot so I would definitely recommend going up there soon, you can reach them at www.tilapiaaquaponics.com

Classic, but true, "it depends".  So true in so many cases.

depends on temp of water and number of fish and ph and and

No clear answer for Holly

computer backups work great for the aerator.

If the power goes out...how long with the fish live without their aeration?

Your right Dave but if the power goes out do your prayers help or do you have another means to supply air to the fish?
