@Dr. George B. Brooks, Jr. - Has anyone ever got their nitrates up to a level where they record on their test kits?

Yes my out door system nitrate level is at 20 ppm with Ammonia and Nitrite both at 0.25ppm.  This system is a peeponic system.

My indoor system has always read 0.  I've just begun to supplement nitrogen because the fish do not created enough.  I feel safe in doing this because I have a very large amount of pumice which has already cycled.

Nitrate levels

I overdosed badly with ammonia when I was cycling my system and the nitrates were 100+ ppm and never came down.   I've doubled my grow bed space to accommodate the amount of nitrates being produced.

The only problem I've got now is getting something that will grow in this high heat.  Some beans popped through the surface last night and I have high hopes for them.  This is the fourth attempt at getting beans to grow.  I think I've got it worked out now.

Dr. Brooks, yes, very regularly.

Scott, I'll put my vote in as blood worms (midge fly larvae). They're good to have, and most will probably disappear when you introduce fish because they love them.

Scott. Midge fly larva. Harmless, eat decaying organics, fish will eat them if they notice them. Adults are usually non-biting, and will swarm above the water during egg laying, and look like mosquitoes.

@Dr. George B. Brooks, Jr.- ReNitrate levels

I am using the API Fresh Water Test Kit. I have a very small fish population but since cycling my Nitrates are normally about 5 ppm and have run to 80 ppm in the past.

Here is the photo of the worm

Here is the photo of the sacks,

Jeremy, Dr. Brooks - Definitely not dragonfly, they are worms.  I have only seen a couple of the worms and they are so tiny.  The translucent sacks might be egg sacks, they were attached at the water surface edge.

To make it a little more formal and easy on the owners. Say tours start on the hour.

Tour. Hey Dave a suggestion. Pick a day say for the sake of argument, Saturday September 15th, 2012, and a time range say 9:00 am to 3:00pm. Every one who is available on that day say yes and provide an address. Informal but it gets it going.
