@Scott Bloom - I don't think it had anything to do with the sea weed. My system will drop Nitrates over night too.
On Monday I had a reading of 0 ammonia, 5+ nitrites and 20-40 nitrates. After taking the reading I added 1tsp of seaweed extract I bought from a nursery to my 60 gallon system. The next day when i tested my system the nitrates were almost at zero and it has taken till today to get the reading up to 5ppm. Anyone have an idea why the seaweed addition might have caused the nitrate drop?
@Larry in CG.....don't feel bad....I know Sheri and Bob love having you visit them....and I think they also love to eat fish, so win-win!! ;-)
James I have been using this pump I got from Amazon.com, and so far it has been incredible for me.

I also have an active aqua 4 outlet that I like.
@Bob : I got my fish from Sheri on August 2, so just over one month ago. I don't know how old they were at that time, but they were about 1/2 - 3/4 inch long. It's completely amazing how fast they have grown in just one month. I've gone from feeding them a teaspoon of food 3 times a day to 1/4 cup of food three times a day, and thinking about increasing that again. It's crazy. They got regular snacks of squash beetles until my squash plants succumbed.
Water temperature is about 85 degrees and the fish are loving life.
OH! Tractor! LOL! Bob would have known exactly what you were saying. Sorry about that! John, thanks for the PTO explanation. I was a member of the PTO at my son's school long ago... :) We have a generator hanging out in the shop if we needed it. Backups are good to have!
Aww, thanks, John. And thanks for taking care of our little friends. I'm glad things are going well with them. :)
@John - I too have some about 4 to 5 inches. They were born around May 1st. How old are yours?
