Have you guys figured out how to build a good Fluoridation Filter?

I watched a bunch of videos and thought I would throw one together, but I'm not having much luck.  Getting the entire filter to fluidize is difficult.

@Rick, I think I'm going to order it regardless of how many people want in so I'll save you a couple liters.

@Chris, $40 would get you almost 15 liters which would deliver a bio filter capable of handling 400 gallons or so assuming you have grow beds as well.

I will keep you guys up to date on the order.

Kent, if I were to use K1, i'd use a filter like the video you posted. If there is enough interest in breaking it up in small batches I'd only need 1 or 2 liters. Otherwise no big deal, I could probably do just fine without it.

@Rick and Kent.....thanks for the info!!  3 rooms and a kitchen for bacteria.....hahahaha!  I like it, little plastic wheels, and they look so familiar, like I've seen them used for something else.  But nowhere does it say what type of plastic Kaldnes is made of...do either of you know??  I'm not big on plastics...  But, if it's safe, I'm not too opposed to utilizing it....but wow! expensive, even at the cheaper rate.  Kent I might be able to do $40 worth of it, whatever that figures out to....

@Chris I could tell you but then Bob would have to kill you!

Actually its easier to give you a link that describes what it is and how it works. It was originally made for water treatment plants but is finding a new home in the world of aquatics.

Hey Chris, I think your question got overlooked. K1 Kaldnes is the filtration media. K1 is a reference to the size. Kaldnes also comes in K3. I don't know anything else but google Kaldnes and you'll understand it.

@Kent....I posted the question but either I missed it or it went unanswered.....what exactly is K1?  I liked the fluidized bed filter too, but I wondered what the media is made of....can you tell me??

I'm thinking about purchasing some K1 media to make some fluidized bed filters. The cost is much lower when bought in bulk so I'm hoping to split the order with others if they are interested. Its $136.00 for 50 liters which is $2.72 per liter or $30.00 for 4 liters which is $7.50 per liter.

According to my math I will need about 4 liters per 100 gallons to sufficiently filter my water with moderate stocking levels. This will give me a nice safety buffer for the times when I'm harvesting which greatly reduces the bacteria levels. I would like to keep 25% of the 50 liters so that will leave 37.5 liters for others if they want it.

This link is the design I'm considering for my breeder tank.

Let me know what everyone thinks!

Thanks Larry.  I'm in shock. Years of hair gone!

It's been 20 years since I looked like this.

Sheri, we are all really starting to worry about you two. Did you and Bob decide to take a quick trip to Africa or Egypt for more Nile Tilapia?

We all hope you are well. And I hope I can still come by. Because every time I visit you guys I learn something new and ingenious from Bobs inventive mind, and skilled craftmanship.
