Thanks for the find Dr Brooks,  Nice to see an aquaponics store in phoenix, if anyone is going to check them out this weekend, I would be curious to know what the prices are like for hydroton, grow beds, vertical towers, and if they sell things like chealeted (sp?) iron and things that are specific for aquaponics systems

Zach,

Our kids are coming up on Easter from Sahuarita. We can send some down to you. They're Nile, mixed sex fry, about 1" for $1 each. Email or call me 480-889-4374.

I wonder who's behind the local AP store. It's interesting...mostly floating rafts using hydro trays, but some deeper trays for media beds. I wonder where he/she got those. We haven't been able to find anything deeper than 7" without paying a hefty price.

Our bok choy is very confused. Some are bolting, some are happy.

Water temperature home outside system no greenhouse, 70F. Outside temperature 96F. Hmmn.

The solar heater really kicked in today!  The pond is at 80f

Guess I can put the big guys back in the pond again!

I rescued the fish from the cold in December when I lost a couple while I was goofing around getting my heater hooked up.  Turns out silicon sticks to black poly drip tube, but not to PVC connectors. Liquid nails sticks to PVC but not to black poly drip tube.    I finally screwed dry wall screws into the silicon through the PVC connector; it only dripped a few days before the crud plugged it up...   I have a better fix in mind for next season    stay tuned...

I measured one of the tilapia that is still in the house aquarium yesterday at just over 11 inches.  It's getting nice a fat too

Later,

Jim

Don't know if any of you have seen this, but I thought it was a great story on an Urban farmer in South Central.

Great pictures, Dr. George! Thinks are growing nicely.

Stephanie, I have a friend who lost the majority of his pond population to the crane.  I'm not sure how to protect them, but I'm sure you don't want to spend your life in your yard waving your arms around.  :)

With the first freeze followed by nice weather and then a second freeze, many of our plants have bolted. Only the kale in the A/P system has bolted, but the broccoli, some lettuce, arugula, and a couple other things in the Square Foot garden have gotten confused. So we're doing a nice harvest and re-planting this weekend.

Yeh I noticed that. I tried the flash but it had little effect. Guess I need a better camera :-(. The way the system is configured, the best light for photography is in the afternoon when no one is around.
