This can be caused by a number of reasons, most commonly changes in surroundings in the fish tank ie trash or debris in tank, dead fish, aerator not working as usual. Anything that appears to be different from the fishes perspective will be considered a threat until they become familular with it will cause them to be " off feed ". Obviously water parameters would also play a roll in unusual behavior. High nitrates will cause fish to lay on the bottom, however this would be an unusual condition for an AP system.
The search key words for what you are describing is called being "off feed." It can be caused by any number of or combinations of environmental conditions including seasonal weather changes. Using those key words you should find the data you seek.
Sunset you and I seem to have similar systems! As of yesterday I noticed the same behavior with them not having an interest in eating, I also noticed the fish are all on the bottom of the tank where before they used to stay near the the top.
ps these are in outdoor above ground tanks. The water temp late this morning was around 70-72 degrees
My larger, older fish have lost interest in eating for the past day. The younger tilapia in the adjacent tank are still eating as well as ever.
Does the cold nighttime weather affect the larger fish more than the smaller, younger fish (who are actually pretty large now too)
Hey David, glad to see you back. Join up on the Arizona Aquaponics page on facebook (if you have a facebook account). A lot of us have joined on it and they are very talkative and is nice to have a 2nd home for us Arizona Aquapons.
I can pick it up tomorrow afternoon or whenever you're available.
I'll take it David. Let me know how much.
