Thanks to everyone that came out today! It was great to meet you in person and listen to your experiences and share what we are working on.  I thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon.

The stack can be double or triple insulated.  The pellets are lighted with a propane torch through the opening on the primary burn chamber, the thimble is a simple piece to make, something I can do or have done in a sheet metal shop.

This is the stove that I am using now.  To vent it out a vinyl greenhouse would require a large "thimble" to prevent melting the vinyl.  This would be made of two pieces of galvanized sheet metal sandwiching the vinyl.  Should also provide some framing to support the stack to prevent the vinyl from stretching and tearing.

My dream has come true - I'm moving to Portland with my wife. I should be out there by August. I'll have to break down, dry out, and transport my aquaponics system and restart it there. I'm psyched to meet many of you and get connected with the PNW aquapons. I think it will remain a hobby for the time being, but some day...

Hi Everyone,  And Thanks to Anne Phillips for showing me that there are more than a small handful of Aquapons here in the NW.  I am trying to get a new non-profit started.  Our forum is here: http://www.citybounty.org/forum  Please feel free to join us and add your input.  We are trying to network people all over the Portland area to share seed, starts, harvests, and elbow grease around Urban Farming.  We will try and get a CSA style urban farm going to support the projects and one of the main goals is Rooftop Aquaponics.

I look forward to this journey and thanks in advance for your input and friendship.

Pellet fired water heater / furnace is working well.  Keeping water at a steady 80 degrees and greenhouse temps in mid 60s.  Outside temps lows of  mid to high 40s lately.  Cost to run about $4 - $5 in pellets per day plus the electricity to run the fan.  Should have the backup electrical system in shortly.

Of course we don't mind. Also it's good to have a foundation of hydroponics to build on. I know it helped me even understand the concept.

Just cheking in since I'm new here.  I'm from SE Washington just outside the Tri-Cities.  Still the PNW but more sun shine.  I have to plan for cooling in the summer and heating in the winter. I was able to score some free windows and slidding glass doors from a remodel and I am planning on building a greenhouse with them. I only have one year of hydroponics under my belt but I am learning fast and aquaponics seems to be the next step after I get the greenhouse up and running.  I live on a small farm with some sheep, turkeys and chickens. I have been asked by our local fair board to do a hydroponic demonistration garden this year at fair and I want to include a section on aquaponics. So I hope ya all don't mind if I lurk around and ask some questions.
