I've been wanting to do this for years, but location, resources, time and simply not really knowing what I'm doing has prevented me from starting my aquaponics system.
No more.
I have the hoophouse frame and cover on, the IBC and filter barrels painted and the first grow bed framed up.
Learning as I go has to be the mode, as I'm sure it was with everyone when starting out. I just have a hard time because I can't afford to mess things up really…

Hi, Jeff
To answer your question; I dig the ground down a few inches and lay the liner dirrectly
on the ground to maintain the natural temp within trouts range. Keep the tank in the
shade also; shade cloth and trees work well.
Jeff looked at your setup you got a nice system going keep up the good work and thank you for the compliment.
Hi Jeff,
I can't say I know a lot. I've been doing this for several years and mostly work from experimentation. They're are so many who really grasp the technical side. At this point I'm working with the system I've got (not the best, I think) and experimenting with it. I'm hoping to take one of my media beds and develop a wicking bed using the soft grow bag material. I saw this in Oma RIchards system and think it will be better than just dirt in my grow bed with a barrier between it and the rocks below. Hope this makes some sense.
