The switch itself controls the power that goes through the plug. Once the switch hits the level that you want, it will make the connection inside of the switch housing and the current will flow through turning on the pump.

Yep. You will be able to adjust the float level to where ever you need it.

Jim - So, if I rubberbanded the tether switch to where it would turn on at 4 inches of water depth in the sump tank,  would it cut the pump on as long as the pump was plugged into the back of the tether switch power plug?

This tether is designed to just plug your pump into the piggyback plug. So it will work with both.

Or could you plug the pump into the back of the tether cord power plug?

Roger - I have the same problem with sump tank size on my new system, so I just put the pump in the fish tank for now. You can buy a separate sump pump switch that will work with your FT pump and that do the trick as a safety switch if the water in the sump tank gets too low. But turning the pump off may bring the flood and drain cycling to a stop and force you to manually operate your system.

Jim - Could this tether be connected a regular pump or only sump pumps?

Roger, what you need is a tether sump switch. It can be added to your current sump pump. You can see one here. http://www.google.com/products/catalog?hl=en&q=water+tank+float...

So I was thinking and I realized if I ran my sump pump water out to over the FT that would alleviate my earlier pressure question and help with aeration if I ran PVC across FT.  However, still not sure how I'm going to get the sump pump to cut off once the sump tank is empty.

I meant to ask one other question, even when I upgrade to a 60 gallon sump tank, it still is only going to be about 13" tall.  I was thinking about using a 1/8 HP sump pump b/c it has a float valve that would cut the pump on.  I'm just having a hard time finding this type of pump.  Are there anyways I could cut a 257gph pump on from my sump once the water reaches a certain level?
