2 year start up and expandtion

My start up consisted of a portable 10ft x 20ft car port, with 4 - 4 x 8 grow troths, a self constructed 4ft x 4 ft x 3ft high self constructed 330 gallon tank and a 100 gallon stock watering tank and 220 fingerling tilapia. That was in July 2011. A major learning experience!    In 2013 I expanded to 4 additional 275 gallon polly fish tanks and 12 additional 4 x 8 grow troths. and I am about to add 4 more grow troths.  The new growing area is housed in a 42ft x 26ft "hoop house".    My gross…See More

Been Busy

Posted on June 10, 2012 at 3:17pm 1 Comment

The month of May 2012, has been consumed with a major expansion.  I was able to make contact via a friend with a woman that had the metal frame and parts form a "hoop house" greenhouse destroyed in a hurricane sever years back.  As she was still being taxed for the structure, she was most happy to have me remove it. We did have to disassemble and take down one section still standing. It took us two days and I gave her a $50 gratuity, for which she was most grateful.  Problem was each…

Hi Dave,  we have added on 1000 additional square feet of trough space and more importantly, we are revising our system!  We have decided to change our DWC type system into what we are calling our hybridized design that integrates media beds into our existing raft system.  Lots of exciting stuff going on!  How is your system doing?

You'll find very useful information in the FORUMS.  To try and point you in the right direction, (regarding your question), you may want to join the Tilapia Breeders group of our community.

Welcome Dave,

Thanks for joining the Aquaponic Gardening community!  I hope you find it a fun place to explore aquaponics.  There is a real blend of experienced and new aquapons in this community, so please don’t hesitate to get in there and start asking questions.  Everyone is quite happy to help out new members – no question is too basic.
A great place to start is to read the “How to Use This Site” link on the upper right corner, “Start Here” section of the Home page.  You might also find the “Aquaponic Gardening Rules of Thumb” guidelines helpful.

Please participate and check in with us every day!  We are constantly posting news about aquaponics and the good food movement.

Thanks again for joining us, and I look forward to getting to know you.
