Hey guys, I'm going to open this up for debate, as things are getting a little off topic on my personal system discussion. There have been questions as to the safety of charcoal as a media, and I'm…Continue

Hey guys. I'm not familiar with these pumps at all, but I found them in a place that sells stuff that's scratch and dent. Neat place, got a tip that there was a load of fish supplies so I checked…Continue

Hi Paul,
I will get the tilapia on Tuesday - right now I have a few guppies in the tank. The plants are growing great. The whole system is amazing. Also started some seedlings for the garden this week and began construction on the greenhouse. It's going to be "the year of the garden". Sepp Holtzer the permaculture guy is coming to Gimli in May for a workshop - I would like to go and learn more from a master!
Hi Paul, today was a VERY exciting day. When I tested this morning, I found Amonia, Nitrites AND Nitrates!!!!!! Finally - Hoping to pick up a few tilapia on Tuesday!!!
Hello Paul,
Things are going well with my little set-up. We are now cycling and hoping every day for the nitrites to appear. The kids planted seeds - about a half pound of lettuce! some of them have started to sprout so it's exciting for them to see. The gentleman who has the tilapia has had a bit of a setback as a pump quit last weekend and he lost a whole bunch. I hope he still has a few to sell to me when my system is ready. 15 years ago, when I moved in, I removed the shower doors from the bathtub as they were pretty yucky with hard water residue. I put them in the basement thinking that some day I might want them. This week, I brought them up and made a nifty sliding door for the fish room. I can still see the light and peak over the top to check that things are ok but the little ones are safe from falling into the fish tank and eating the hydroton. All is good.
Glad to hear its works without problem, you can forget about it now and concentrate on planting and fish.
Cheers.
