I have been seeing more and published on the benefits of adding salt to grow tanks. I raise Koi, Trout and Catfish. What is the opinion out there in our Aquaculture world, should salt be added to the tank water in low quantities, say 1 to 1.25 ppt simply to condition the tanks before fish are added?

Thanks for taking the time to reply

This low salt level causes the fish to get a good slim coat which protects them from disease.  3ppt is where I go to if they get hurt.  Salt is the best first defense but you don't want to keep more than 1.5ppt on a regular basis because you will have nothing left if they need it higher for an injury or disease.

thank you, Bob.
