Making a grape cutting

It is mid summer here and I am tempted to try and make a grape cutting from a vine in my father-in-law's garden. Will a summer / soft wood cutting take or will I have to remain patient until Autumn?

There's one way to find out...just give it a go! Worse case you have a dead twig, right?

Well it is Africa after all - the place where no rules really gets adhere to anyway :). I'll give it a bash.

You'll write new rules! I've never heard "I'll give it a bash"...think I need to adopt that saying...

You know, I try with these rules, but not everyone is equally impressed. Just the other day I got into an animated discussion with a traffic cop over the fact that I do not like these nanny rules telling me to wear a safety belt while going 20 miles an hour. I can understand wearing one on the highway, and for my small kids, but really now :)!!

I don't think "give it a bash" is totally South African - perhaps British or Aussie derived from "take a swing at it". Also useful in the backwaters of this place, were a hammer can easily pass as a "tool kit".

Here we would tend to say "I'll give it a whirl" which I think is a ballroom dancing reference, but I could be wrong about that

i do not know about grape cuttings, but i just wanted to mention that i have 2 grape plants barely surviving in my back yard; they are 4 years old and no more then 12 inches tall. beetles keep eating the leaves.
i have a 1 year old grape vine in one of my aquaponics systems and its about 4 feet long. no fruit yet but the raised bed really helps defend against the beetles.
