You know, I try with these rules, but not everyone is equally impressed. Just the other day I got into an animated discussion with a traffic cop over the fact that I do not like these nanny rules telling me to wear a safety belt while going 20 miles an hour. I can understand wearing one on the highway, and for my small kids, but really now :)!!
I don't think "give it a bash" is totally South African - perhaps British or Aussie derived from "take a swing at it". Also useful in the backwaters of this place, were a hammer can easily pass as a "tool kit".
