Aquaponic Gardening

A Community and Forum For Aquaponic Gardeners

I came across this pump when searching to see if anyone made any of the inventions I am thinking about. I think this pump could be what some people need to do Aquaponics. I know I am coming up with some ideas for it.

So what are you going to use to operate the pump?  It still requires something to crank it.

I have not decided anything yet. I could see hooking up a chain, sprocket, electric motor and a timer. You have to admit it has amazing lift and volume. In theroy you could hand pump water into a cistern in the morning and flood beds with a timer. during the day. I am still mulling over some ideas.

I'm not sure what sort of timer you would use to flood beds from a header tank.  You need quite a lot of pressure to allow most inexpensive automated valves to work.
Chris buy a 180 dollar beckett pump like a 2500 or 3500 and it will wipe the floor with that pump. I really dont see what you are gaining. It is a really efficient portable pump thats it. It is not a efficient electric pump by any standard. If you are going to pump the fish tank water to a high location then what are the fish going to be in. Even if you pumped only half of fish volumn you can see the math doesnt work. You could double the water volumn but then your formulas for a recirc system are so diluted the plants would suffer. Any irrigation valve will work under low pressure or gravity feed but again the main point to recirc is water must be flowing for the fish to thrive and plants to grow. I like you have racket my brain on this only to come up empty. Aquaponics needs the water to move for oxygen for the fish and the plants. Just a thought.
I don't have an application in mind for it. I was impressed with the lift on the pump and the fact it can pump grease. I also like the fact it can self prime 10 feet above the water source.
It is a cool pump but it still probably won't help you get an electric free system going any better than buckets will.
one particular advantage with this pump is its ability to handle solids.  now if one could find an efficient electric motor to power it...
