Veterans Teachers Engineers Globalizing Small Systems

Sweet Water has been helping a veterans group and several schools in Chicago and Milwaukee set up small experimental systems, now with help from a start-up USDA grant, engineers, and Milwaukee School of Engineering.  Plan on developing course curricula, credentialing, and distant learning, with a focus on India, the Middle East, and Latin America, then Africa.  On site installation in plans, as well, ideally with trained veterans through our aquaponics community!See More

Sylvia Was Superb in Today's Presentation at Sweet Water

Posted on January 23, 2011 at 3:19pm 3 Comments

About 50 people listened intently and were greatly informed and inspired by Sylvia's presentation connecting education, community, and inspiration in aquaponics at the Sweet Water Winter Workshop One in Milwaukee today.  I took careful notes which I will share and draw upon for quite a while, but must return now to the Packer Chicago football game.

Tulip Buildng of Sweet Water a Showroom for Your Aquaponics Miniatures?

Posted on January 16, 2011 at 8:38am 3 Comments

Dear All,

I would very much enjoy doing my best to introduce miniatures like Sylvia and others in this community have developed at an Aquaponics Miniature Show Room in the Great Hall of the Tulip Biulding at Sweet Water.

There are probably about 100 visitors per week to Sweet Water these days and I suspect the numbers will keep climbing,

especially since we've signed on with the City of Milwaukee to accelerate an eco-tourism project.  There is a highly…

Sweet Water has seven 10,000 gallon fish tanks and plant platforms above ready to offer thoughtful people training in their tending and short term or long term leasing: families, schools, spiritual communities, restaurants, scientist, artists, associations, businesses, etc. Ready to brainstorming this concept.

Hi James, I am actually leaving Boston in just under a month, so I won't really be of help in that area.Hard to find fully operational apon stuff happening here. I tried going to a workshop at Herring Gut Learning Center, but it was canceled due to low enrollment.  That might be a good place to inquire though...

Hi there James!

I'd like to know a little more on the idea/project. Are we talking city or county schools or both? I'm not in the immediate St. Louis region but I'm certainly not far but I am from St. Louis county. I'm feel honored that you would ask me though. I have been wanting to come visit Sweet Water for some time. My goal is to start my own commercial aquaponic greenhouse but still a ways away from that.

Let me know!

Pat

Hi James: I am a new member and Sylvia suggested that I should contact you, as you may have an interest in aquaponics work in India. I am working with village-based communities, and would like to promote aquaponics as a means of providing food security and livelihoods for communities with scarce land and water resources. Subra

Hey James,

I love what you're doing for the AP movement!  Please keep up the good work!

Also, I'm in the process of creating a project and non-profit to create a mobile green house out of a converted school bus, showcasing sustainable technologies and energy, permaculture, and healthy/organic food, including an aquaponics system, to educate the youth at their schools.  Someone said you had previously thought about this idea.  Is there any advice or input you have in relation to a mobile aquaponics system?  Thanks!
