Hey Levi, Sorry for taking so long to reply...guess I am too busy checking out the site and not my own page I don't know about the energy requirements of geothermal but I do know it is being done and it has been a real struggle for me to keep my Tilapia alive in this unusually warm Michigan winter! I lost my first two but that's not bad considering I have over 150. I run a small 175gal tank in my garage during the winter w/2 400watt heaters and keep it well insulated and off the ground. I do know that Friendlies has been doing some research on a geothermal solar greenhouse and have a newsletter and website w/lots of free info on it. I plan on trying it out next year as soon as I save enough money for it. Good Luck with your system.
Yeah Bluegill are small but quite tasty! TC Lynx on this site uses catfish and says they do well in colder temps. Also a lot of people around the Great Lakes are growing yellow perch which are delicious but I had a hard time finding any for sale this year as they are really popular. I would like to have my AP system eventually off the grid as well. Look into Geothermal energy for greenhouse heating. Good Luck with the move.
Happy New Year Levi, Nice to meet a fellow Michigander doing AP! I enjoyed your video and liked your system setup. I really liked the slug feeding idea. I am raising Tilapia but want to do some bluegill as well in this cold climate. How are you doing with the cold and snow? I have had to move my fish into the garage and use heaters to keep them happy but so far it is working well. Anyway great to meet you and good luck!
