Not to sure about what is going on with my setup.  One fish died overnight and two more are on the way out.  pH is at 7.0 today but was at 9.0 last night.  Ammonia is still at 1.0 and still no sign of nitrites or nitrites.  Water temp hi is 74 low is 71.4.

Cuttings look great, made mini terrariums with old soda bottles to cover the plants, also added a neck to the siphon to raise water level to reach seeds and cuttings for the time being.  Smells a bit fishy in the tank, but then I did add 10 fish to the 20gal tank.  The big comets are happy as hell the little ones I picked up at Petsmart (never doing that again) are all croaking.

Yes I used Goldfish, cheaper than Tilapia or Trout and if this all doesn't work out well the I have some goldfish pets....

Ammonia is still at 1.0

Fish like water where the ammonium is close to zero PPM.

Fish will get stressed out when the ammonium is .5 to 1 PPM.

Fish that have ammonium that is 2-3 PPM, start to die.

If your ammonium is always around 1 your in the danger land.

So I'm guessing that your tank is overstocked with fish and the plants can't take in the ammonium very fast.

Shoot for a low ammonium and your fish will be happy. Don't worry your plants will grow.

Thanks Mark.  Right now I am dealing with cloudy water, the other issue, if you have seen my other posts, is I purchased the API Pond Test kit and not the API Freshwater Master Kit.  I have noticed that some spectrum cards are different colors depending on the water being tested.  So all my readings could me way off.  pH for our water is 8 right from the tap so yes it is around 7.0/7.5 and now the water is finally at 77 degrees.

I have a small aquaponics setup that I use 4 tailed goldfish in. They are doing great. But when I started I had bought some goldfish from another place and they got sick and died. It took me awhile  to figure out it was not my setup but the supplier of the fish three stores later to find healthy fish. Your PH problem seems strange that it could move that much in such a short amount of time. Is it staying at 7 now. If so maybe just a bad test. If your system is still young you could buy some good bacteria for it to help speed things up.Good luck
