Yes I did take some duckweeds and put them in a net and let them flow in my fish tank but when water was siphoned from my grow bed to the fish tank the duckweed dropped dropped in the water.  I will ry again later and keep you updated.  Yes i think the way I'm rowing my duck will increase mosquitoes and i'm thinking about moving into y house.

Do any of you aerate the tank that contains the duckweed? I have seen advice saying that it does better if the water is aerated. It's an issue here because mosquitoes would breed in the water otherwise. Also, do you feed duckweed?

We have had our breeder colony going for two months now. [four 30 gallon fry tanks, one 140 gallon breeder with 1 male and 5 female]. I recently introduced duckweed to the fry tanks and the little guys really like it, but it clogs the filter really fast. I have tried a variety of pre filters with little success. Our tanks use an overflow, so maybe an under gravel filter would be better. Keep us posted on your duckweed.

There is a web site: www.feedipedia.org that has posted food value of over 200 plants. Duckweed is among the highest vegetable protein (27% to over 40%.

I researched aquaponics for my soon-to-retire daughter. This information is free to anyone. The monthly update for January 31, 2014 exceeds 90 pages, plus a 10 MB PowerPoint slide presentation.

If you wish a copy, send me your email address.
