Aquaponic Gardening

A Community and Forum For Aquaponic Gardeners

One of my multi layer aquaponic systems featured in Shangdong Hi-tech Agricultural Fair (demo). Rotating layers dip into the tank. I "borrowed" this from an early, now famous, verticle farming concept then took it low tech and added fish.

We used rock-wool for this demonstration but I suspect hydroton would work better due to the amount of time spent in water. The rotation allows the pots to soak for about one minute. the small wheel takes about eight minutes to complete a cycle while the large wheel took about twenty minutes to complete one revolution.

what are the plants potted in coir, hydroton ? how long do they stay in the water before rotating out?

I'd didn't make this. I only designed the basic concept and provided consultation on green/ sustainable growing methods. The local manufacturers union have to be credited for manufacturing it.

If you can't lead the water to the plant, lead the plant to the water.  Might  provide some oxygen in the rotation too. Speed it up for more oxygen and the tilapia might not catch the roots? Nice!!

Dude! The fish are sooo jealous they don't get to ride the ferris wheel!  That is awesome.

Very nice concept for a limited space application.  Do you have one running at the moment in order to develop operating cost / production data?
