No... they do prefer some sort of substrate in the tank... but we generally don't place a substrate in an aquaponics tank...

The yabbies above... were grown in a "sediment" tank... fed from other components of the system... and a flow through back to the main tank...

 

No...

Definitely... NO.... and they'll find any way out of the water they can...

 

I'd have to look up the optimal temperature.... but too cold and they definitely wont breed...

 

Your speices might have different temperature tolerances to ours here in Australia...

Rupert I'm looking for any advise about raising crawdads. 

Do they need mud to reproduce?

Do they need a period of low water?

Do they need a place to get out of the water?

What's the best temperature?

I know these are crazy questions but I've read so much that I'm confused.

Those are gorgeous Rupert- man that's a pretty blue- didn't know a mud bug could be so pretty. I'll have to post some pictures of my ugly crawdads. Man, yours definitely win the beauty contest!
