We have found CraigsList is the place for a lot of stuff like worms, fish, tanks and more. Beats retail and you can find it near by.

Hey anyone have a some red wigglers they would be willing to sell in the south florida area? I feel like the population in my media beds could use some new blood.

Thanks in advance.

Roots on most of my plants are getting eaten / trimmed in my raft tank. I have checked and rechecked and there are no fish in the grow bed. There are two different kinds of snail (have been for a long time) and those tiny shrimp looking critters. Whatever it is does not like mint and completely leaves it alone. Roots are trimmed even with the bottom of the raft.

I have removed all the rafts more than once and dredged the raft tank so I'm sure there are no fish.

     Any ideas or suggestions?

Very good deal.

Oh and channel catfish often won't eat right away after being stressed out by something so that is all normal.  I often call mine scardy cats but they grow well here in FL so they are a good aquaponics choice if your fish tanks are big enough to grow them out.

I went to Florida Fish Farm. They gave me 30 channel cats, even though I asked for 25. And they charged me $7.50, that was $.30 x 25. My cats would not eat the 1st few days, but now they are happy eager eaters. I will be going back to FFF in the future.

If your primary goal isn't the fish, I might even urge you to a number between 30-40 fish, However, the fish farm probably has a minimum order so you might be paying for 50 of the larger fingerlings even if you only get 30.  So I guess that just means you are likely to need to eat 10-20 of them kinda small if you see water quality problems starting to crop up as they grow.

I do want to eat the fish, but that's not the reason I am doing this.

50 catfish seems like a good number.

I'd probably stock less than 40-50 channel catfish in such a system.  Start with a slightly higher protein feed for small fingerlings (like a 5-10 pound bag from Aquatic eco) and before that is gone transition them only your normal food of between 32-36% protein.  Here in FL the channel catfish grow fast.

If you wanted to grow Koi or goldfish instead, that is also an option if you don't want to eat the fish.  They are big poopers so you don't need as many of them to poop for your veggies.

We had a storm come through last night. When I got up at 8am my FT was 3/4 empty of water. I checked all the supply and return lines. I found that one grow bed had a leak below the bell return line.

When complete I will have

4x11 DWC = 330gallons

24 half barrels= 600gallons

My main concern is providing enough nutrients for the plants not growing fish.

I have a one cfm air pump in the tank for extra air

Oh, and I don't expect that Florida Fish Farms will be in this weekend so you can try calling but you will probably have to wait till some one comes into the office to be able to make an appointment to get fish.
