Well the warnings haven't extended in to my place though I'm sure we will see some stormy weather with the outer bands.

The giant prawns might require special permits to raise here in FL and they require lots of space since they are territorial so you need a big system to grow enough of them to make a few meals and they require even warmer water than the tilapia to survive.
As to the taste of catfish, I couldn't much tell the difference between them and tilapia unless they were overcooked, in which case the tilapia would get stringy and the catfish would get kinda tough or dense. They are both so mild when grown in aquaponics. Catfish just require a slightly different approach when cleaning them but since they are usually bigger you don't need to clean as many.

Maybe I'll give catfish another taste. The bluegill might be an option.
Does anyone know of anybody raising freshwater shrimp?

Inow have all the material for my aquaponicsystem build, plus 12 - 55 gallon barrels in my rainwater capture are full from the early stages of Isaac. Unfortunately, I had planned to build the 4' X 30 DWC this weekend. Instead I will be taking all the potential projectiles and bringing them inside, i.e. lumber, blue board and all sorts of material from my soiled based organic garden.
Want to come to Miami and lend a hand?

There are many types of sunfish. Many of them tend to overpopulate ponds and wind up stunted and none of them growing very big. You need to thin the population (removing lots of the smaller ones) and leave some of the biggest ones to reproduce in the ponds if you want "larger" fish to catch. By letting the pond stay over populated and only catching and eating the largest bluegill you wind up letting the smaller stock be the breeding stock and you are essentially selecting and breeding for smaller and smaller fish. If you are getting fingerlings and growing them out in a tank, you will get a wider size range of fish and there will be edible pan fish in the lot.
