Improvements you'd like to see for this community

Hello all - Sylvia recently sent out a message that included a note about the two of us working together to give this community a face lift.

 

The bad news first: I'm new to this community.  Shame on me...but Sylvia's been too nice to say no to my requests for help so far, so she's been the only resource I've needed so far!  I'm also new to Ning generally, so I'll be doing some homework on getting up to speed with what can be done.

 

The good news: I know enough HTML, CSS, PHP, and other flavors of the alphabet soup to be able to do some pretty cool things.  I am enthusiastic about helping Sylvia continue to cultivate this community, so I've given her no limits to what she can ask me to do.

 

The content that you create is the heart and soul of this community, so keep it up, and even consider doing more of it!  With that said, any suggestions that you have to improve the other stuff - aesthetics, functions/widgets you'd like to see, how things are organized, etc. - this is your place to voice it.

I like it Sylvia, I just went in and edited mine.
So though existing members are not forced to fill out the questions, We can go back and edit our profiles and we can answer the questions.

I love a more prominent place on "my page" for all of us to put what other forums/communities/websites/etc we are on or have so others can follow what we are doing if they want to. Maybe even with the basic info right under the pic.

Ricky, not sure how to pull that off, BUT there is an "Add RSS" button at the bottom of the right column of your page. Can you feed your blog posts, etc. through there?

I added links in my profile so they show up on "my page"

I agree that it would be nice if they were to show up more prominently.

Sylvia, does ning have any way to allow signatures? That might solve this, we could add our location and perhaps other important bits to our signatures that might help in keeping track of who is who answering and asking questions.

I checked, TC, and found this recent thread on the Ning creators forum - http://creators.ning.com/forum/topics/forum-signature. Looks like they are getting some pressure to add it, so we will see. Meanwhile you can just cut and paste whatever you want into the bottom of your post. Completely lame, I know, but I'm afraid that's all I can offer for now.

Yeah, I found them in my explorations of a forum-style signature, which I ought to be able to figure out when I have some time to commit to it (kinda slammed right now). Let me know how they are working...mine are showing up... :) ...I think...

I can also add more to the set, but again need to find the time to figure out out. A little at a time... :D

I haven't read through this whole discussion so I don't know if it has been discussed. Is it possible to separate the types of systems to have their own subforum under Aquaponics Discussions? It's kinda hard sifting through all this great info.
