Is draining a media bed into a raft bed feasible? To be more specific: will a 3ft x 4ft (1ft deep) IBC media bed's auto siphon (1inch pipe) discharge move enough water thru a 3ft x 6ft (1ft deep) raft bed, to sustain leafy greens? BTW, siphon drains twice an hour(ish) (250gallon FT, 200 gallon sump, 1100gph pump)

Thanks for your time,

Joel

Actually, I go wicking bed to raft, but either direction would work. Wicking beds can be built flow-through, cross-flow, or even dead-end. Where they go in the Aquaponics system is up to you, and depends on your wants and needs. I'll put some attention to making some drawings and collecting some pics. Joel, I don't understand your question. What loss of water?

RK, I'll post some pics. How was Brazil?

What? Raft to wicking bed can't work, the loss of water would to much to manage. Right???? But if you have one running I'd like to see that too.

Brazil was great.  I stayed with a friend who has a big 7 acre property right next to the rain forest with 3 or 4 ponds of artesian water.  Should be fun next time we go back to build a big AP system for them.

Perhaps my idea of a wicking bed is different than whats in your system. The only beds I'm familiar with are hay or soil based. I can't image plumbing one with a recirculating AP system. I look forward to pictures and/or drawings.
