Aquaponic Gardening

A Community and Forum For Aquaponic Gardeners

A programmer friend of mine has got me interested in controlling of devices from the internet. I am currently building some components that will feed my fish, turn on my evap cooler when it gets to 100, monitor the humidity level for my mushrooms, monitor a motion sensor for security. Turning lights and fans on is an easy thing too. All these things can be on your smart phone for you to tweak things as you see fit. At the C de M tour bbq I hope to have some of these things working.

You got my attention! I have been wanting to control my system from a spare tablet but haven't got started yet.

My main concern is temperature control. Have you found any submersible thermometers(wi-fi preferred)?

I just found this and will be adding it to my demonstration plan. The beauty of using control boards is everything can be wi-fi compatible.

VERY COOL!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hope this discussion matures.

Robert,
Do u have a way to cool your water?

I have been planning to do this for my second system for the last 2 weeks.

This is the best sensor  I have been able to find.  There is a great youtube on setting it up.  This will control both heat and cool functions with little or no effort.

I am planning to use this controller to run a second water pump solely for the heat/cool function.   Using a separate pump will allow the grow bed system to function normally.

@david:  the solar collector rejects heat all night if you need to cool your water too.

Last summer when the water temperature in my FT1 went over 85 degrees, I placed a Desk mount fan to blow over the water and used it only when necessary and I was able to keep the temp down to 85 degrees.

That looks like a fine unit but Im talking about controlling all sorts of things so you can monitor and change things as you see it on the internet.

Below is what I sketched up for the web page at livingwaterorganics.com/automation. This will be the user interface to test things like the fish feeder and the fan operated water temperature sensor.

Tell me more about the fish feeder

I was also wondering about cooling water this summer.  Is there a way to naturally cool water?  Like water falling down tubes with a fan blowing in the tube?  I would rather not have to buy an evap cooler or some other thing - I think my wife would also kill me if I spent more money on something like that, so I'm trying to think of natural ways....

@ Matt

You should be alright without cooling your water if you have shade and the fish in the ground.  If you do have a problem, misters will work.

If you have a greenhouse then you would have to cool the air inside the GH.
