Aquaponic Gardening

A Community and Forum For Aquaponic Gardeners

Our neighbors in Plant City are starting to plant their strawberries. Today I spoke with the lady at Parksdale Farms about getting some plants for our system. I did not bother asking a terrestrial farmer for aquaponics advice. The small berry plants, in groups of 25, will be available early in October. Now, should we place the strawberries in the DWC or in the media beds? and at what spacing?

Tks!

I'm gonna plant mine in my vertical towers and I will probably plant between 8 to 10 plants per 5' long tower.

Drawbacks to planting in rafts or beds is that the berries may rest on the gravel or the raft and tend to rot more where they touch a wet surface.

I'm not sure what spacing will be best and I've never really grown berries since moving to Florida so this will be my first season.

8" spacing is pretty common for many small plants in rafts though.

I bought 50 strawberry plants yesterday. They are bigger that I expected, but maybe bigger is better. We planted half in the rafts and half in the gravel beds. Maybe next year we will have some towers, but for now we are still learning.

Do you have any picture examples of how to setup  the vertical towers, or youtube videos? I'd love to explore setting up something like this.  I also just planed 3 strawberry plants to see how they do.  I was thinking of getting one of the holders for tomato plants and encouraging them to grow on them.
