Aquaponic Gardening

A Community and Forum For Aquaponic Gardeners

Hi, I'm just wondering if there are any good school programs for aquaponics that anyone knows about. I'm getting out of the military in the next year and I want to get in to aquaponics. I'm not even sure what kind of program would suit me best to be honest though. I was thinking something biology related if not specifically AP. Possibly botany/fishery science. Maybe something online?

What would you recommend as a community for someone new to the game? Or where would you recommend going since I'm getting out and I have nothing to tie me down anywhere?

Hi Kyle:

Try the University of Arizona, they have an AP program

Some of the Hawaiian schools have an internship programs as well I believe. Really though, this forum and a good search engine and some space in your own back yard is going to give you a lot of knowledge. Start small and leave room to expand. It is arguably one of those things where doing is worth more than anyone can teach you about.

HI Kyle.  I'm part of a team (along with three aquaponic farmers) that teach the Green Acre Aquaponic Farming Course.  I know this is a shameless plug, but I really do think our four day course is truly excellent - http://www.theaquaponicstore.com/Green-Acre-s-Aquaponic-Farming-The....  It is especially geared at those who want practical training on how to start a family farm from those who do it every day.  Others who have taken it apparently feel the same way because of the 125 people who have gone through the class, and filled out the evaluation on the last day, 100% said that they would recommend it to others, and it got an overall score of 9.7 out of 10!  But don't take my word for it...here is what they had to say - http://www.theaquaponicstore.com/v/vspfiles/downloadables/GAO_Testi....

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Sylvia

Aloha Kyle,

Yes right now there is Aquaculture Training Online Learning Center. It was created by Professor Tetzusan Benny Ron and Professor Barbara McLain. You can check it out by going to their website www.aquaculturehub.org. Look for the ATOLL link and sign up. Right now is being offered at a reasonable fee. Enjoy!
